- 4 cups (950 ml) fresh unsweetened applesauce
- 1-1/2 cups (350 ml) packed brown sugar
- 1 tsp (5 ml) cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp (1 ml) allspice
- Pinch of ground cloves
- Combine all ingredients in a heavy saucepan and cook over low heat for approximately 4 hours,until the mixture is thick and dark brown.
- Take care not to scorch the butter.
- Remove from heat and let cool.
