Serves/Makes:2 dozen (a guess)
- Ingredients
- 2 cups (475 ml) sifted flour
- 3 tbsp (45 ml) sugar
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) butter
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) milk
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) seedless, raisins
- 1-1/2 tsp (7 ml) baking powder
- oil for deep frying
- powdered sugar
- Preparation
- Sift the flour and sugar together into a bowl.
- Cut in the butter with a pastry blender or two knives.
- Add the egg and milk, mixing until well blended.
- Add the raisins and baking powder and again mix well.
- Shape a tbsp of the mixture into a horseshoe.
- Heat oil in a deep saucepan to 360 degrees (175 C.).
- Drop the horseshoes into it and fry until golden brown.
- Drain and dust with powdered sugar.
- These pastries may be eaten either hot or cold.
