- Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) butter
- 1 cup (225 ml) chopped onion
- 4 cups (950 ml) fresh bread in bite size pieces
- 1 tsp (5 ml). salt
- 1 tsp (5 ml). basil
- 1/2 tsp (2 ml). pepper
- 2 14 oz (392 grm). cans diced or sliced tomatoes
- 4 tsp (20 ml). brown sugar
- Preparation
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees (200 C.).
- In medium saucepan cook onion in butter till tender.
- Stir in salt, basil, pepper and bread pieces.
- Mix in tomatoes and sugar.
- Mix well, and put in a lightly greased 1-1/2 quarts (1425 ml) casserole.
- Bake 30 minutes or till hot and bubbly.

- I adjusted this recipe every time I made it till I was satisfied it was just right for us.
