Serves/Makes:3 Dozen
- Ingredients
- 2 cups (475 ml) sifted flour
- 3/4 tsp (4 ml). cardamom
- 3/4 tsp (4 ml). baking powder
- 3/4 tsp (4 ml). allspice
- 3/4 tsp (4 ml). salt
- 3/4 tsp (4 ml). mace
- 3/4 tsp (4 ml). baking soda
- 1/4 tsp (1 ml). black pepper
- 1/4 tsp (1 ml). ground anise seed
- 1 cup (225 ml) honey
- 3 Tbsp (45 ml). shortening
- 1 egg
- Preparation
- Sift dry ingredients.
- Heat the honey, but do not boil.
- Add shortening: cool.
- Beat in the egg.
- Stir in dry ingredients just until blended.
- Let dough stand 10 minutes to stiffen enough to handle.
- Shape into 1/2" balls.
- Place on greased cookie sheet.
- Bake at 350 degrees (175 C.), 12 to 13 minutes.
- Cool cookies.
- Frost with Powdered Sugar Frosting
- Store in airtight container to ripen.
