Serves/Makes:6 or more slices
- Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) butter
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) cocoa
- 1 tsp (5 ml) baking soda
- 1/2 tsp (2 ml) salt
- 2 cups (475 ml) sugar
- 2 cups (475 ml) flour
- 1 cup (225 ml) hot water
- 1/3 cup (80 ml) buttermilk
- 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla
- 1 tsp (5 ml) red food coloring
- Preparation
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add beaten eggs and mix well.
- Sift flour, cocoa, and salt.
- Mix baking soda in a little cold milk and then fill the measuring cup with the hot milk, and add to the mixture.
- Add the vanilla and the red food coloring, stirring (or beatin it on medium) well.
- Bake at 325 degrees (175 C.) for 1 hour, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

- Frost anyway you like, but chocolate fudge frosting is always a favorite.
