- Ingredients
- Cake:
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) butter or margarine, melted
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) oil
- 2 cups (475 ml) sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup (225 ml) water
- 3 tbsp (45 ml) cocoa
- 2 cups (475 ml) flour
- 1/4 tsp (1 ml) salt
- 1 tsp (5 ml) baking soda
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) milk
- 1 tsp (5 ml) vinegar
- Filling:
- 1 cup (225 ml) sugar
- 1 cup (225 ml) shortening
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) milk
- 1/4 tsp (1 ml) salt
- 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) water
- 1 cup (225 ml) powdered sugar
- Frosting:
- 1 cup (225 ml) sugar
- 6 tbsp (90 ml) margarine
- 6 tbsp (90 ml) milk
- 1 cup (225 ml) chocolate chips
- Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees (175 C.).
- Beat together butter, oil, sugar and eggs.
- Add water, cocoa, flour and salt.
- Mix baking soda with milk and vinegar.
- Add to cake batter.
- Grease and flour a jelly roll pan.
- Pour batter in pan and bake at 350 degrees (175 C.) for 20 minutes.
- Cool completely.
- Filling:
- Beat together sugar, shortening, milk, salt, vanilla and water.
- Add powdered sugar and beat until smooth.
- Spread on cooled cake.
- Frosting:
- In sauce pan, mix sugar, margarine and milk.
- Bring to a boil and then remove rom heat.
- Add chocolate chips.
- Beat until smooth.
- Cool.
- When cool, spread over filling.
