- 2 or 3 lbs (1.4 kg). round steak or pot roast
- 1 package dehydrated onion soup mix
- 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- baby red poatoes (optional)
- baby carrots (optional)
- Preparation
- Preheat oven as described below.
- Lay large sheets of foil out flat and place some of mixture on foil.
- Put roast on top and sprinkle the rest.
- Fold up tight, put in a baking pan in oven at 300 degrees (150 C.) for 3 hours or 200 degrees (90 C.) for nine hours.
- Optional:
- If you want, open foil before it is done and surround it with potatoes/carrots.
- Re-seal foil and continue baking until vegetables are fork tender.
- Comments
- This recipe sounds much like the foil dinners cooked in the coals of a campfire or over the grate. In open air cooking make small packets of meat and distribute toppings to each. In this case add the veggies when you are initially making the packets. Move and turn packets occasionally so they do not burn. Check for doneness by opening a packet and then resealing.
