Serves/Makes:frosts layer cake

Ingredients
  • Frosting:
  • 2 cups (475 ml) sugar
  • 1 stick margarine or butter
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) milk
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) cocoa
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla flavoring
  • Cake:
  • 1 cup (225 ml) margarine or butter [2 sticks softened]
  • 1 cup (225 ml) milk
  • 3 cups (700 ml) self rising flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla or any flavoring desired
Preparation
  • Mix all but vanilla and bring to boil for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and add 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla.
  • Punch holes in cake and pour over cake.
  • This is the cake recipe she used:
  • Cream sugar and butter or marg.
  • Add eggs one at a time beating well after each addition.
  • Add milk and flour alternately.
  • Add vanilla.
  • Bake at 350 degrees (175 C.) F. until done about 25 or 3o minutes.
  • This can be made into cake layers or it can be baked in a 9 x13 inch pan.
  • Punch holes in either layers or large cake with knife or fork, and if layers, pour over each layer so it will go down into the layers.
  • In 9 x13 inch cake, punch holes and pour icing over the warm cake and cut into squares.
  • Should you wish to add nuts to this batter, dust some flour into the nuts to help keep them all from sinking down to the bottom.
Comments
I certainly hope this is the recipe for the icing you are looking for. You can also cool frosting in a pan of water and then beat with mixer until of spreading consistency. Mother never did that though, she always poured it over the cake so it would get all fudgy down in the cake. I just through in the cake batter in case you may be interested in it. I use the cake batter for almost all my yellow cake layers. Please enjoy!! Sure is good!!!
