Welcome to the On Line Cookbook
We hope you enjoy using our cookbook. We have recipes from all over the
world, contributed by cooks of all backgrounds, from single parents to
professional chefs. We strive to make the cookbook as natural to navigate
as possible. You'll find our cookbook fast and easy, without a lot of
time-consuming graphics (we'd hate to make you late for dinner!)
The recipes are navigated with a Table of Contents and an Index, just like
a hardcopy cookbook. A word search helps you find any recipe containing
any word or phrase. As new recipes are added, we can notify you by email
with our Mailing List. A Marketplace section provides a low-cost,
low-overhead alternative to banner advertising.
The On Line Cookbook is hosted by Synergetic Data Systems Inc., a small
software development company whose founder happens to like to cook. The
team consists of Allen Miglore (software and HTML), John Driscoll (art
and design), and Susan Miglore (recipes).
A Little History
It began with Martha Zulu, the world famous (and imaginary) actress, author,
aviator, and all-around everything person. While playing Facts In Five,
whenever a Z person was needed for any category, Martha Zulu provided
the needed name. From Martha Zulu's first cookbook (produced by Susan Cowan
Miglore as a paper and staple job), a computer cookbook was created, and
from that, in 1995, the On Line Cookbook was created.
The first On Line Cookbook was an experimental affair. Allen was teaching
himself about HTML and Web programming, and a cookbook seemed like a fun
way to go. The book was written, put on-line, and hardly touched. Amazingly,
like often happens on the Web, it became popular, with thousands of visits
every day, tens of thousands of visitors each month.
A re-write was in order (and it was a tall one, given the part-time nature
of the job). More features, easier navigation, a more attractive interface;
these were some of the goals. We hope our users find that these goals have
been met.
Your comments and ideas are welcome.
