Serves/Makes:8 servings

Ingredients
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup (225 ml) milk (including egg as listed above)
  • 1 stick margarine, softened
  • 1 cup (225 ml) sugar
  • 2 cups (475 ml) flour
  • 2 tsp (10 ml). baking powder
  • 2 21 oz (588 grm). cans cherry pie filling
  • Topping:
  • 1 cup (225 ml) flour
  • 1 cup (225 ml) sugar
  • 1 stick margarine, softened
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) chopped nuts (optional)
Preparation
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees (175 C.).
  • Place egg in measuring cup and add enough milk to make 1 cup (225 ml).
  • Mix dry ingredients with margarine.
  • Then mix all with milk mixture.
  • Pour, into 9-by-13-inch pan.
  • On top of batter pour cherry pie filling.
  • For topping:
  • Mix flour, sugar, and margarine until crumbly.
  • Add nuts, if desired.
  • Spread crumbs over top of cherries.
  • Bake 40 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Serve warm or cold.
  • Enjoy!

I found this while looking through old recipes to put in a cookbook I am making for my daughters. It was one of our Lil Gram's and I felt a need to share it with you all. Lil Gram was the best bread maker in the whole world and her coffeecakes were a family favorite.
