Serves/Makes:8 servings
- Ingredients
- 1 cup (225 ml) all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup (175 ml) sugar
- 2 tbsp (30 ml). cocoa
- 2 tsp (10 ml). baking powder
- 1/2 tsp (2 ml). salt
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) milk
- 2 tbsp (30 ml). melted butter
- 1 tsp (5 ml). vanilla
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) brown sugar
- 2 tbsp (30 ml). cocoa
- 1 cup (225 ml) hot, strong coffee
- whipped cream, optional
- Preparation
- Spoon flour (not sifted) into dry measuring cup. Level off and pour measured flour into bowl.
- Add sugar, cocoa, baking powder and salt to flour (not sifted); stir well to blend.
- Add milk, butter and vanilla; mix well.
- Spoon into a well-greased 8-inch square pan.
- Combine brown sugar and cocoa; sprinkle evenly over batter.
- Pour the cup of coffee over batter in pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees (175 C.) for 25-30 minutes.
- Serve warm with whipped cream, if desired.
- Comments
- This makes a great cake and doesn't need icing because a pudding forms in the bottom of the pan. My mom used to make this when I was a kid. We loved it.
