Recipe Information
Ingredients
  • The question was what to substitute for buttermilk in a recipe. Sweetened condensed milk will not work. You can, however, use sour milk. You can make this yourself by adding about 1 tsp (5 ml). to a cup of milk. You should see the milk curdle almost immediately. If you need buttermilk on a regular basis, there is a buttermilk powder that you can buy and add water to make buttermilk. This is kept in the refrigerator after opening. I forget the brand name, but I have used it and it is great. I also have used the sour milk method to replace buttermilk and this is fine also. Good luck!!
Preparation
  • Add approx. 1 tsp (5 ml) to 2 tsp (10 ml) lemon juice to a cup of milk to cause the milk to curdle. This can be substituted for buttermilk in a recipe
