- Ingredients
- 2 cups (475 ml) packed brown sugar
- 2 cups (475 ml) flour
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) unsweetened cocoa
- 4 tsp (20 ml) baking powder
- 1-1/2 tsp (7 ml) salt
- 1 cup (225 ml) milk
- 2 tsp (10 ml) vanilla
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) melted butter
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) unsweetened cocoa
- 1-1/2 cups (350 ml) packed brown sugar
- 3/4 cup (175 ml) chopped walnuts or pecans (optioal)
- 3-1/2 cups (825 ml) boiling water
- vanilla ice cream
- Preparation
- Recipe portions work best in a 3-1/2 quarts (3300 ml) crock pot. If a larger crock pot is used-increase ingredients to fill pot at least half full.
- In crock pot mix together 2 cups (475 ml) brown sugar, flour, 1/2 cup (125 ml) cocoa, baking powder, and salt.
- Stir in milk, vanilla, and melted butter.
- In a small bowl, stir together 1/2 cup (125 ml) cocoa, 1-1/2 cups (350 ml) brown sugar, and chopped nuts. Sprinkle over batter.
- Pour boiling water over top---DO NOT STIR.
- Place lid on crock pot and cook on high 2 1/2- 3 hours.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

- This cake is so rich and yummy that you only need serve a small portion and you need the ice cream to mellow it out!! I make this for Easter Dinner and it is fast and easy to mix up and can be served warm right after dinner.
