Serves/Makes:6 to 8 servings
- Ingredients
- 1 lb (.5 kg). beef stew meat, cut into 1 inch cubes
- 6 cups (1425 ml) water
- 6 oz (168 grm). of bottled beer
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) flour
- 1/2 tsp (2 ml) thyme
- 1/2 tsp (2 ml) salt
- 1/2 tsp (2 ml) pepper
- 5 beef bouillon cubes
- 5 large carrots, peeled and chopped 1 inch thick
- 5 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped 1 inch thick
- 1 large onion, roughly chopped
- 1 slice bacon
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) Worcestershire Sauce
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) corn starch
- Preparation
- Combined salt and pepper with flour, toss beef in flour.
- Simmer bacon in large pot a few minutes turning a few times.
- Add beef pieces and brown meat and all sides.
- Add the rest of the ingredients except cornstarch.
- Turn heat to low and simmer one hour.
- Whisk cornstarch together with 1 cup (225 ml) water.
- While stirring stew, slowly pour in cornstarch mixture until well bended.
- Remove from heat, let cool ten minutes to thicken.
- Comments
- This stew is even better the next day. Pack leftovers for lunch. Recipe easily adjusts to feed large crowds in a hurry.
