Serves/Makes:around 24

  • 4 cups (950 ml) fresh unsweetened applesauce
  • 1-1/2 cups (350 ml) packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp (1 ml) allspice
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • Combine all ingredients in a heavy saucepan and cook over low heat for approximately 4 hours,until the mixture is thick and dark brown.
  • Take care not to scorch the butter.
  • Remove from heat and let cool.
