Fried Green Tomatoes

  • 3 large firm green tomatoes
  • 1-1/2 tsp (7 ml) salt
  • 3/4 tsp (4 ml) pepper
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) white corn meal
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) Crisco
  • Wash tomatoes and slice 1/4 inch thick.
  • Do not use top or bottom of tomatoes.
  • Sprinkle each slice with salt and pepper.
  • Dip in corn meal and fry in hot Crisco.
  • Brown on both sides.
  • Drain on paper towels.
  • Serve immediately.
