Serves/Makes:8 sandwiches

  • 1 lb (.5 kg). ground lamb
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) chopped onion
  • 2 tsp (10 ml). minced garlic
  • 3/4 tsp (4 ml). salt
  • 1/2 tsp (2 ml). dried marjoram, crumbled
  • 1/2 tsp (2 ml). dried rosemary, crumbled
  • 1/8 tsp (1 ml). black pepper
  • 4 (7") pita bread, cut in half
  • shredded lettuce
  • 1 large tomato, chopped
  • Cucumber Mint Sauce:
  • 1 cup (225 ml) plain yogurt
  • 1 cup (225 ml) sour cream
  • 1 medium cucumber, seeded, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp (1 ml). dried leaf mint, crumbled
  • 1/2 tsp (2 ml). salt
  • 1/8 tsp (1 ml). black pepper
  • Combine first 7 ingredients.
  • Cook until meat is fully done.
  • Drain.
  • Combine Cucumber Mint Sauce ingredients.
  • Spoon hot meat mixture into each opened pita half.
  • Spoon mint sauce over meat.
  • Top with lettuce, tomatoes and additional sauce.
  • Serve at once.
