Ingredients
  • Cake:
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) butter or margarine, melted
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) oil
  • 2 cups (475 ml) sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup (225 ml) water
  • 3 tbsp (45 ml) cocoa
  • 2 cups (475 ml) flour
  • 1/4 tsp (1 ml) salt
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) baking soda
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) milk
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vinegar
  • Filling:
  • 1 cup (225 ml) sugar
  • 1 cup (225 ml) shortening
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) milk
  • 1/4 tsp (1 ml) salt
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) water
  • 1 cup (225 ml) powdered sugar
  • Frosting:
  • 1 cup (225 ml) sugar
  • 6 tbsp (90 ml) margarine
  • 6 tbsp (90 ml) milk
  • 1 cup (225 ml) chocolate chips
Preparation
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees (175 C.).
  • Beat together butter, oil, sugar and eggs.
  • Add water, cocoa, flour and salt.
  • Mix baking soda with milk and vinegar.
  • Add to cake batter.
  • Grease and flour a jelly roll pan.
  • Pour batter in pan and bake at 350 degrees (175 C.) for 20 minutes.
  • Cool completely.
  • Filling:
  • Beat together sugar, shortening, milk, salt, vanilla and water.
  • Add powdered sugar and beat until smooth.
  • Spread on cooled cake.
  • Frosting:
  • In sauce pan, mix sugar, margarine and milk.
  • Bring to a boil and then remove rom heat.
  • Add chocolate chips.
  • Beat until smooth.
  • Cool.
  • When cool, spread over filling.
